Data Preservation and Data Sources

The National Archives preserves the official files on each Presidential administration's website in the Executive Office of the President Electronic Records Archive. These copies are hosted online as part of the public historical record and are not updated. Contains photographs, speeches, press releases, digital data and other public domain records.

The End of Term Web Archive captures and saves U.S. Government websites at the end of presidential administrations. The EOT has thus far preserved websites from administration changes in 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020.

Access historical versions of U.S. government websites with a simple URL change. How it works: Take any .gov URL and add wayback.com right after .gov, and you'll be redirected to the Wayback Machine's archived versions of the page.

The University of Michigan has compiled a list of non-governmental resources that have some US government-produced data.

The Policy Commons 2025 Open Collection is an initiative to rescue and preserve materials from government organizations facing the removal of public information and data—reports, blog posts, videos, and podcasts. Coherent will archive, assign permanent unique identifiers, and index the materials for discovery through Google Scholar and academic databases. Each item will be enriched with detailed metadata—and made openly available to the public.

A project of the Harvard Law School Library Innovation Lab, this is a regularly updated mirror of Data.gov, the US federal government data finding and storage site.

The Tracking Gov Info Project is a crowdsourcing effort to track removed and modified government information and resources. The project's goal is to compile a comprehensive list of government websites, documents, articles, reports, etc. that have been removed or modified by the current administration. The focus is on tracking non-data government information to complement the efforts of the Data Rescue Project.

A volunteer-coordinated reconstruction of the NIH Sexual & Gender Minority Research Office website. From 2015-2025, SGMRO coordinated research activities on LGBTQ+ health topics across the NIH. The site included webinars (and past recordings), reports, and other resources to support research involving LGBTQ+ populations and topics. Taken offline in January 2025.
