  • 1990 Long Form in 2000 Boundaries : This database allows users to access US Census data from 1990 and compare it with the 2000 Census data. It is based upon the Long Form questions and includes detailed demographic data about topics such as population, household structure, income, poverty, education level, employment, housing costs, immigration, and other variables.   • 19th Century U.S. Newspapers : Provides access to approximately 1.7 million pages of primary source newspaper content from the 19th century, featuring full-text content and images from numerous newspapers from a range of urban and rural regions throughout the U.S. The collection encompasses the entire 19th century, with an emphasis on such topics as the American Civil War, African-American culture and history, Western migration and Antebellum-era life among other subjects.
  • ABC-CLIO E-books : A collection of ebooks on hundreds of different topics in the fields of history, sociology, and cultural and regional studies.
  • ABI/Inform Complete Plus : A great starting place for business research, this database covers business conditions, trends, management techniques, corporate strategies, and industry-specific topics worldwide. Includes articles from magazines, trade publications, and scholarly journals.
  • Academic Search Complete : This academic multi-disciplinary database provides than 8,500 full-text periodicals, including more than 7,300 peer-reviewed journals. In addition, it offers indexing and abstracts for more than 12,500 journals and a total of more than 13,200 publications including monographs, reports, conference proceedings, etc. Coverage spans virtually every area of academic study and offers information dating as far back as 1887.
  • Access Medicine : Mobile version available Complete full-text (including graphics, images and illustrations) of the most recent editions of medical reference textbooks in internal medicine, cardiology, genetics, pharmacology, diagnosis and management, basic sciences, and patient care.
  • Access World News Research Collection : The database provides access to over 528 million current and archived articles from thousands of global and U.S. news sources, most only available through this resources. Each source provides unique coverage of local and regional news, including companies, politics, sports, industries, cultural activities, and people in the community, as well as a distinctive focus offering a variety of viewpoints on local and world issues. Paid ads are excluded. Search interface includes a world map.
  • AccessEngineering : 320+ full text titles with comprehensive authoritative content from a broad range of McGraw-Hill engineering publications.
  • AccessSurgery : Integrated online resource with information about surgery including videos, animations, full-text textbooks, surgical atlas, and board review materials.
  • Accounting, Tax and Banking Collection : Covers articles published in nearly 300 accounting and tax publications, as well as official releases from the AICPA and FASB, and selected tax-related information in thousands of business journals.
  • ACLS Humanities Ebook Collection : A collection of over 5,700 scholarly books in the humanities from over 125 publishers, curated by members of ACLS learned societies and licensed by the University of Michigan
  • ACM Digital Library : Access to the text of Association for Computing Machinery journals and proceedings.
  • Africa Development Indicators : Africa Development Indicators (ADI) is the most detailed collection of data on Africa, containing over 1,600 indicators, covering 53 African countries and spanning the period 1961 to 2008. Data include social, economic, financial, natural resources, infrastructure, governance, partnership, and environmental indicators. The ADI Data Availability Query shows where data is available for a given country, series, and year. It contains the value "1" for available data and ".." for missing data.
  • Africa Intelligence : Africa Intelligence is an independent news site covering African politics, diplomacy, and economics; areas of emphasis include local and regional politics, geopolitical strategy, and oil, infrastructure, banking, and security sectors. Access includes daily publications and archives from 1992 to present.
  • African American Newspapers, 1827-1998 (Readex) : Provides access to approximately 270 U.S. newspapers chronicling a century and a half of the African American experience. The collection features papers from more than 35 states and was in part created from the most extensive African American newspaper archives in the U.S.
  • African American Newspapers: The 19th Century (Accessible Archives) : This database provides full-text access to articles from a number of historic African American newspapers, beginning in 1827 with Freedom's Journal. The collection contains a wealth of information about cultural life and history during the 1800s and offers first-hand reports of the major events and issues of the day.
  • African American Periodicals, 1825-1995 : This collection features more than 170 wide-ranging periodicals by and about African Americans. Published in 26 states, the publications include academic and political journals, commercial magazines, institutional newsletters, organizations bulletins, annual reports and other genres.
  • African Newspapers [Series 1 & 2] : This resource features over 60 searchable African newspapers published in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Content includes English and foreign-language titles from Angola, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Sao Tome and Principe, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. This database along with Readex sister databases African Newspapers, British Library Collection can be searched concurrently via a single interface for access to nearly every newspaper published on the African continent in the 19th and early 20th centuries.   • African Newspapers: British Library Collection : This resource features 64 fully searchable newspapers published in Africa before 1900 and originally archived by the British Library. Students and researchers will find news and analysis covering the European exploration of Africa, colonial exploitation, economics, Atlantic trade, the mapping of the continent, early moves towards self-governance, the growth of South Africa and much more. This database along with Readex sister databases African Newspapers, Series 1 and 2 can be searched concurrently via a single interface for access to nearly every newspaper published on the African continent in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
  • AGRICOLA : AGRICOLA is a bibliographic database consisting of citations for journal articles, monographs, proceedings, theses, patents, translations, technical reports and other sources pertaining to all aspects of agriculture.
  • Agricultural & Environmental Science Database : This database includes the renowned AGRICOLA, TOXLINE, ESPM (Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management) and Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) databases and provides full-text titles from around the world, including scholarly journals, trade and industry journals, magazines, technical reports, conference proceedings, and government publications. This database includes specialized, editorially curated A&I resources covering such topics as the effects of pollution on people and animals and environmental action and policy responses.   • Air University Library Index to Military Periodicals : Covers significant articles, news items, and editorials appearing in English-language military and aeronautical periodicals.
  • Al Manhal : Al Manhal is a major full-text searchable database of scholarly and analytical publications from the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. Material is primarily in Arabic, with selected material in English. Includes ebooks, peer-reviewed journals, theses, and think tank publications covering the arts, architecture, biography, business, culture, economics, classical and contemporary languages and literatures, education, history, geography, Islamic studies, Islamic finance and banking, law, media and communications, political science and international relations, science and technology, and the social sciences.
  • Al-Ahram Digital Archive : Al-Ahram (????????, “The Pyramids”), from 1875 to 2014. Later years will be added as they become available. The title is regarded as Egypt’s most influential newspaper, and one of the most important newspapers in the Arab world. Prior to 1960, the newspaper was an independent publication. Since 1960, Al-Ahram has been the de facto voice of the Egyptian government, today managed by the Supreme Council of Press. Al-Ahram has featured writings by some of the most important political and literary voices of the day.
  • America: History & Life with Full Text : America: History & Life with Full Text offers extensive coverage of scholarly articles on the history and culture of the United States and Canada, from prehistory to the present. Includes selective indexing for 1,700 journals from 1955 to present, as well as full-text coverage of more than 200 journals and nearly 100 books.
  • American Antiquarian Society (AAS) Historical Periodicals Collection: Series 1-5 : Provides digital access to the most comprehensive collection of American periodicals published between 1684 and 1912. This rich library from the American Antiquarian Society (AAS) covers subjects including advertising, health, women's issues, education, science, the history of slavery, industry and professions, religious issues, culture and the arts, and more.
  • American Chemical Society Web Editions : GW subscribes to MOST of the titles on this site, but not all.
  • American Indian Newspapers : This resource opens research into a range of subjects from an indigenous perspective. It has been developed with the permission and contribution of the newspaper publishers and Tribal Councils concerned. It presents the publications of a range of communities, with an extensive list of periodicals produced in the United States and Canada, including Alaska, Arizona, British Columbia, California, Nevada and Oklahoma, from 1828 to 2016, with a strong concentration from 1970 forward.
  • American Institute of Physics (AIP) E-journals : Provides full-text access to the following journals: Applied Physics Letters, Journal of Applied Physics, Journal of Mathematical Physics, Review of Scientific Instruments, Journal of Chemical Physics, Physics of Fluids
  • American Mathematical Society Online Journals : Full-text access to American Mathematical Society journals.
  • American National Biography Online : Offers full-text biographical articles for more than 18,300 men and women from all eras and walks of life whose lives have shaped the United States. No. of concurrent users: 5.
  • American Periodicals Series (1741-1940) : Page-images from more than 1,100 historic American magazines, journals, and newspapers illuminating the development of American culture, politics, and society across 150 years. Articles can be searched by author, source, or words in the complete text.
  • American Physical Society Journals : Provides full-text access to the following American Physical Society journals: Physical Review A-E, Physical Review Online Archive (PROLA), Physical Review Index, Physical Review Letters, Reviews of Modern Physics
  • American Society of Civil Engineers Online Journals : Access to American Society of Civil Engineers Journals
  • American Song (North America) : A history database of 50,000 songs that can be listened to online. American Song encompasses the great American musical genres including country, folk, bluegrass, Western, old time, American Indian, blues, gospel, and shape note singing combined with powerful recordings by artists such as Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Peggy Seeger, Si Kahn, Lead Belly, Sleepy LaBeef, the New Lost City Ramblers, Otis Clay, Eddy "The Chief" Clearwater, Nanci Griffith, The Lilly Brothers, Merle Travis, and many others. The music comes from Rounder Records, the Smithsonian Institution, Document Records, and other labels and sources.
  • AmericasBarometer : A periodic study of public opinion in 34 countries in the Western Hemisphere, with stratified nationally representative samples drawn in each country, a common questionnaire core, and country-specific modules.
  • Ancestry Library Edition : The largest and broadest online collection of genealogical records. Each record collection includes detailed information about the source, and many collections include images of primary source documents and/or transcriptions, in addition to unique name indexes. New content and updates are added weekly.
  • Annual Reviews : Online versions of Annual Review titles held in print by Himmelfarb and Gelman Libraries. Covers the biomedical, physical, and social sciences.
  • Anthropology Plus : International coverage of the fields of anthropology and archaeology, and related interdisciplinary research. Brings together the highly respected Anthropological Literature from Harvard University and Anthropological Index (Royal Anthropological Institute) from the UK.
  • AnthroSource : Developed by the American Anthropological Association (AAA), AnthroSource brings 100 years of anthropological material online to scholars and the public. A complete electronic archive of all AAA journals through 2003. Seamless access to archival content housed at JSTOR for key AAA publications including American Anthropologist.
  • AP Images Collection : A photographic archive of high quality images from the Associated Press news wire covering 1820s to the present. Includes news, entertainment, and fashion photography; maps; timelines; graphics and logos; graphs; AP news stories; and audio clips.
  • Aqualine : Aqualine provides indexing and citations for trade, technical and scientific literature on all aspects of water resources. Subjects covered include water resources and supplies management, legislation, water quality, potable water distribution, wastewater collection, water treatment technologies, wastewater and sewage treatment, water pollution, and more.
  • Arab-Israeli Relations, 1917-1970: The Middle East Online Series 1 : This database provides searchable, primary source documents held by the National Archives, Kew (U.K.) that chronicle the politics, wars, administration, and diplomacy surrounding the Palestine Mandate and the Arab Israeli conflict.
  • ArchiveGrid : ArchiveGrid contains the descriptions of nearly one million archival collections held in archives around the world.
  • Archives of Sexuality & Gender. LGBTQ History and Culture Since 1940 : Includes Parts l & ll. Part I brings together primary source content on the social, political, health, and legal issues impacting LGBTQ communities around the world.   • Arts & Humanities Citation Index : Covers the scholarly journal literature in the arts and humanities. Full indexing of 1,144 leading arts and humanities journals, and of selected relevant items from over 6,800 major science and social science journals.
  • ARTstor : Searchable database of more than 750,000 images applicable to different times, cultures, and disciplines. Combination of images, data, and texts provides comprehensive art-related teaching, learning, and researching capabilities. Use the Register link to create a free personal account to download and save images. NOTE: Mobile version requires creating a login by registering on ARTstor using a regular workstation first.
  • ArXiv : The ArXiv preprint server provides access to over a half million articles on physics, mathematics, computer science, quantitative biology, quantitative finance, and statistics.
  • Asahi Shimbun Onrain Kiji Detabesu (?????????????????) : Kikuzo II Visual (?????????????????) is one of the largest newspaper article databases in Japan, with over eight million articles from over 130 years of the Asahi Shimbun newspaper. The database also includes Who's Who and Historical Photo Archives.
  • Asian & European Business Collection : This database provides information pertinent to the study of business and finance topics across Asia and Europe, including academic journals, newspapers, newswires, and magazines. Find information on companies, economies, markets, international trade, and overall business conditions and practices throughout these regions.
  • AskART : Provides biographical and professional data on over 120,000 American artists from the early 16th century through the present. Includes images, artists' biographies, and limited auction records, where available, for valuation and provenance research.
  • ASME Transactions Journals (Current) : Journals published by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

  • Astrophysics Data System (ADS) : The SAO/NASA Astrophysics Data System (ADS) is a Digital Library portal for researchers in Astronomy and Physics, operated by the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) under a NASA grant. The ADS maintains three bibliographic databases containing more than 10.3 million records.
  • ATLA Religion Database with ATLASerials : ATLA Religion Database with ATLASerials is the full text version of the ATLA Religion Database (ATLA). This database is a collection of major religion and theology journals selected by some of the major religion scholars in the United States. Coverage of this database dates back to 1949.
  • Atlanta Constitution (Historical) : As the major daily newspaper in the Atlanta area, The Atlanta Constitution (1869-1875; 1881-1984), provides insight into the political, economic, cultural, and social life of the southeastern United States from Reconstruction through the late 20th century. Offers full page and article images with searchable full text.
  • Audit Analytics (WRDS) : Provides detailed research on over 150,000 active audits and more than 10,000 accounting firms, covering all SEC registrants. Users must create a WRDS account. See Wharton Research Data Service (WRDS) for more information.
  • Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals : Covers journal articles on architecture and design, archaeology, city planning, interior design, and historic preservation. Citations from scholarly and popular sources from the U.S. and abroad, including professional associations, regional periodicals, and major international journals. Also included are citations to professional obituaries (often the only available sources of biographical information for less-published architects).
  • Balance of Payments Statistics : The Balance of Payments Statistics (BOPS) database includes annual aggregate and detailed time series for balance of payments and international investment position for countries; provides world and regional tables of balance of payments components and aggregates; and descriptions of methodologies, compilation practices and data sources used by individual countries.
  • Baltics, Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine : Includes a number of authoritative periodicals published in the Newly Independent States of the former Soviet Union and the Baltics, both in Russian and in English.
  • Baltimore Afro-American (Historical, 1893-1988) : The Baltimore Afro-American (Historical), a prominent, historic African American newspaper, offers full page and article images with searchable full text back to the first issue.
  • Baltimore Sun (Historical 1837-1991) : The Baltimore Sun (1837-1991) provides unprecedented access to news from this major port city. The database offers full page and article images with searchable full text back to the first issue.
  • Bank Regulatory (WRDS) : Provides accounting data for bank holding companies, commercial banks, savings banks, and savings and loans institutions. The source of the data comes from the required regulatory forms filed for supervising purposes. Users must create a WRDS account. See Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) for more information.
  • Banking Information Source : Covers essential banking industry publications, providing information about the financial services industry, banking, and industry trends.
  • Berg Fashion Library : The Berg Fashion Library provides access to interdisciplinary text, image, and journal content on world dress and fashion throughout history. Includes Berg Encyclopedia of World Dress and Fashion online, e-books, reference works, and more.
  • Bibliography of Asian Studies : Citations to scholarly journal articles and monographs relating to all areas of Asia. Western-language materials. Entries may be browsed by journal title and country of relevance.
  • Bibliography of British and Irish History : The Bibliography of British and Irish History (BBIH) is the most extensive guide available to published writing on British and Irish history. It covers the history of British and Irish relations with the rest of the world, including the British empire and the Commonwealth, as well as British and Irish domestic history.
  • Bibliography of the History of Art (BHA) : Bibliography of the History of Art covers European and American art from late antiquity to the present. This database indexes and abstracts art-related books, conference proceedings and dissertations, exhibition and dealer's catalogs, and articles from over 4,000 periodicals. Published from 1975-2007, this database is succeeded by the International Bibliography of Art which covers records from 2008 to the present.
  • Biography and Genealogy Master Index : [Now included in Gale Directories Library.] Citations to biographical entries in over 3000 volumes and editions of current and retrospective reference books and volumes of literary criticism, covering both contemporary and historical figures.

  • Biosis Citation Index : Part of the Web of Science, this database indexes over 5,300 high quality journals and serials back to 1926, as well as providing indexing for selected relevant patents, conference proceedings and books.
  • Black Abolitionist Papers : Covering 1830-1865, Black Abolitionist Papers presents the international impact of African American activism against slavery, in the writings of the activists themselves.
  • Black Freedom Struggle in the 20th Century (History Vault) : The link goes to the History Vault main page; then look for Black Freedom Struggle under Browse Collections. This database gives allows researchers to study both well-known and unheralded events in the Black Freedom Struggle in the 20th Century from the perspective of men and women who waged it. Consists of two modules: "Federal Government Records," and "Organizational Records and Personal Papers."

  • Books@Ovid : Access to books in Ovid's electronic library of core clinical texts.
  • Bridgeman Education : A digital library of high-quality art, cultural, and historical images from museums, galleries, and private collections. Covers most aspects of art, archaeology and ethnography, history, science and medicine from prehistoric and ancient times to the present day.
  • Brill Online Reference Works :
  • Brill's Encyclopedia of China Online : The main focus of this encyclopedia is China from the mid-19th century to the 21st century. It contains the information on the history, geography, society, economy, politics, science, and culture of China.
  • British extra-territorial jurisdiction in the Gulf, 1913-1971. : This study presents an account of the exercise of extra-territorial jurisdiction by Britain in the Arab Gulf States during the period before the Gulf States gained full sovereignty and independence. It provides avaluable analysis of the working of the British Court System in the Arab context. The material is based on the author´s original research among thejuridical records of the British Court for Bahrain and on interviews with judges and lawyers of the period.
  • British Library Newspapers: Pts. l & ll, 1800-1900 : British Library Newspapers, Pts. I & II, offer full runs of national, regional, and local nineteenth-century British newspapers, taken directly from the extensive holdings of the British Library. The papers provide a broad, yet detailed view of British life in the nineteenth century; from business to sport, from politics to entertainment and the arts. The two collections together cover 69 titles.
  • British Mandate in Palestine, Arab-Jewish Relations, and the U.S. Consulate at Jerusalem, 1920-1944 : This collection consists of correspondence and telegrams received and sent by the American consular post in Jerusalem pertaining to the protection of interests of American citizens,foreign trade, shipping, and immigration.
  • Brockelmann in English: The History of the Arabic Written Tradition Online : Brockelmann in English Online consists of both original volumes Geschichte der arabischen Litteratur (GAL) by Carl Brockelmann (1868-1956), as well as the three supplement volumes, including the indexes. Brockelmann’s Geschichte der arabischen Litteratur offers bio-bibliographic information about works written in Arabic and their authors, with an emphasis on the classical period.

  • Business Source Ultimate : Business Source Ultimate provides both bibliographic and full text content covering all fields of business including marketing, management, MIS, POM, accounting, finance and economics. Indexing and abstracts for the most important scholarly business journals back as far as 1886 are included. In addition, searchable cited references are provided for more than 1,300 journals.

  • Cabell's Directory of Publishing Opportunities : Cabell's Directories helps scholars identify journals for publication and guides users in evaluating journal quality. Entries include contact information, manuscript guidelines, acceptance rates, review process, number of reviewers, and audience.
  • Cambridge Companions Complete Collection : Cambridge Collections Online includes over 600 titles, updated regularly, with emphasis on literature, classics, religion, philosophy, and cultural studies.
  • Cambridge Journals Online : Mobile version available. Access to most e-journals published by Cambridge University Press.
  • Cambridge Structural Database : To install additional software used by this database, see Chris Cahill in the Chemistry Dept. The Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) is a repository of experimentally determined crystal structures of a range of materials and is maintained by the Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre. Criteria for inclusion require that the compound is small molecule and contains at least one C-C bond. Thus inorganic AND organic materials are represented. CSD does NOT include protein structures.
  • Canadian Newsstream : Full text of over 190 Canadian newspapers, including The Globe and Mail and Toronto Star, along with newswires and broadcast transcripts.
  • CANVAS - Corcoran Archival Network for the Visual Arts : This collection showcases and expands access to original research accomplished by graduate students at the Corcoran College of Art + Design from 2006-2013. (This database is restricted to authorized users of the George Washington Universities Libraries.)
