Freelancing is a term used to describe professional services offered on a contract basis. Freelancers -- i.e. those who perform this type of work-- are generally self-employed, and may also be called consultants or contractors; or, the work they do is sometimes called work for hire. Freelance contracts may be full-time or part-time, temporary or on a semi-permanent basis.
