If you have more questions about upgrading RefWorks, please email Christopher Gross at chrisg@gwu.edu
Legacy RefWorks (also known as Classic RefWorks or RefWorks 2.0) has been shut down by the provider as of June 30, 2023. RefWorks v.3 is now the only version available. If you had references saved in your Legacy RefWorks account that you have not migrated or otherwise saved, the provider may be able to able to retrieve them for you through October 2023. Please email chrisg@gwu.edu for assistance.
The old Legacy RefWorks URL will now redirect you to the current version of RefWorks.
Q. Was my Legacy RefWorks account migrated to the new version?
A. Most active accounts were migrated (unless the user had already migrated themselves). Accounts that had been inactive for years generally were not migrated. If your account migrated, you may have seen an email welcoming you to new RefWorks. If not, you can simply try logging in at refworks.proquest.com to see if your old citation library is there now.
Q. I have more than one RefWorks account. Which one did my Legacy RefWorks data migrate to?
A. The one that uses the same email address as your Legacy RefWorks account.
Q. I did not migrate my Legacy RefWorks account, but now I realize that I still need those citations. Is there any way to get them?
A. Your Legacy RefWorks data will be retained by ProQuest for 120 days after the server was shut down. This means we can still request an archived version of your data from them. Email chrisg@gwu.edu for help. This data retention period will end in October 2023.
Q. This migration was annoying. We won't have to do it again, will we?
A. The current version of RefWorks is designed to allow further upgrades without migrating to a new site. You may need to migrate someday if GWU ends its subscription to RefWorks. Fortunately, if that ever happens, we should have plenty of advance warning.
