GW Student Resources and Policies for Online Courses

This guide consolidates the relevant GW policies and resources that help online students learning.

Support Services

Student Health Center

The Student Health Center (SHC) offers medicalcounseling/psychological, and psychiatric services to GW students. GW also partners with TimelyCare.com to provide scheduled and on-demand virtual health services to all students. More information about the SHC can be found on the SHC website. Students experiencing a medical or mental health emergency on campus should contact GW Emergency Services at (202) 994-6111, or off campus at 911.

Other Needs

Accommodations Beyond Disability

Everyone has different needs for learning. If you don’t have a documented disability but feel that you would benefit from learning support for other reasons, please don’t hesitate to talk to your professor. If you have substantial non-academic obligations or other concerns (e.g., food insecurity (See The Store), work, childcare, athletic commitments, language barriers, financial issues, technology access, commuting, etc.) that make learning difficult, please contact your professor. This information will be kept confidential, and together, your professor can brainstorm ways to meet your needs.

Other Needs

Any student who has difficulty affording groceries or accessing sufficient food to eat every day, or who lacks a safe and stable place to live, and believes this may affect their performance in the course, is urged to contact GW's Office of Student Financial Assistance for support. Furthermore, please notify me if you are comfortable doing so. Some other resources to support you are found under the course menu item Student Resources and include support for academic achievement and personal well-being. (Adapted from Goldrick-Rab, 2017)

Student Affairs

Student Affairs offers other various student support services that may interest you. These range from military and veteran services to housing to career services. Click the title for more information.

They can be reached on (202) 994-6555 | students@gwu.edu
