Qualitative Data Analysis Software Options

GW Libraries does not currently license qualitative data analysis software; however, there are options available for students and faculty:

MAXQDA offers a 30-day free trial: http://www.maxqda.com/downloads/demo

NVivo offers a 30-day free trial: http://www.qsrinternational.com/products_free-trial-software.aspx

Atlas.ti is only available in Himmelfarb to health sciences students, but they do offer a free-trial (it has no expiration date, but does have program limitations): http://atlasti.com/free-trial-version/

There are some open source software options such as AQUAD: http://www.aquad.de/en/ . It is an open source program out of Germany and most of the documentation and website have been translated to English. There is a manual available on their site.

There is a package available for the R open source program called RQDA (http://rqda.r-forge.r-project.org/). Installation instructions are available on their site.

Online Data Tools

These tools (some free, others subscription-based) are useful for developing data visualizations or analyzing data. Most of these sites have demos or help guides to assist you in learning the tools.

Visualizing Data: Resources

  • Visualizing Data's Resources page is a compilation of tools for analyzing and visualizing data. The site offers brief descriptions and highlights unqiue features of each tool.
