Helpful Tip: Glossary

A glossary of terms is included in appendix B of every print volume of Decennial reports (and online via American Fact Finder for the 2000 Census). It includes the definition of terms used by the demographers and how these definitions have changed over time. If you are attempting to analyze data, make sure you check here first!

American Fact Finder

Use American Fact Finder to create tables of data from the Decennial Census and other surveys.

Decennial Publications

Bound copies of Decennial publications can be found in Gelman Library under the call number HA201 for population reports, and HD7293 for housing reports. Before 1940, both elements were published under one title, so check the HAs for all bound census reports previous to that year.

Gelman's collection of Census materials is not complete, but a full collection is located at the Census Bureau Library in Suitland, MD. A reference librarian may be contacted by calling 301-763-2511 or emailing library@census.gov.
