Professional Organizations

American Association of Museums (AAM)
The major American association representing museums and museum professionals. Museum accreditation information, code of ethics and ethical guidelines, job postings, and other useful resources. Some content limited to AAM members via login.

American Association for State & Local History (AASLH).
The most comprehensive national organization dedicated to state and local history, and in that regard representing hundreds of small to large museums nation-wide. Site includes information on obtaining hundreds of technical leaflets and reports, workshop information, job postings, and more.

ICOM - International Conference of Museums
ICOM is the international organization of museums and museum professionals dedicated to the conservation, continuation, and communication to society of the world's natural and cultural heritage.  Includes topical bibliographies, reports, policy statements, and conference proceedings.

Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS)
This organization in the primary source of federal support for the nation's 123,000 libraries and 35,000 museums.  Their mission is to "inspire libraries and museums to advance innovation, lifelong learning, and cultural and civic engagement."
